The Latino Employment Opportunities Network (LEÓN), founded in 1999 as the Latino Workforce Development Taskforce by the Philadelphia Workforce Development Corporation and Congreso de Latinos Unidos, is dedicated to identifying methods of addressing the unique barriers to employment for Philadelphia’s Latino community.Whether you are a workforce development professional, service provider, elected official, job seeker, or interested citizen, you will find resources on this site that will connect you to the pulse of
the workforce development community. In addition, you will find city, state and national resources of interest to those serving the Latino community. Most importantly, you will find the Latino Workforce Development Taskforce’s report, A Report on Latino Philadelphia. In this first-of-its kind report, published in 2001, LEÓN conducted a door-to-door survey of nearly 400 Latino households in Philadelphia in an effort to identify, statistically rather than anecdotally, what the barriers to employment were. In addition to many others, we found that reported education levels and low use of regulated child care were amongst the most revealing. As a volunteer organization, LEÓN carries out its work through the agencies represented by its membership. On this site you will also find a list of our members, and where available, links to the agencies they represent. It is here that those looking for services or employment can go to access the latest contact information. For more information on the Latino Employment Opportunities Network, or if you are a workforce development professional or other professional interested in the workforce development needs of Philadelphia’s Latino community, please contact Yvette Nuñez, Chair, at (215) 963-3469.
